Dublin Simon Community works at all stages of homelessness, providing outreach and emergency accommodation for people sleeping rough, providing specialist health and addiction treatment services, helping people make the transition out of homelessness and preventing people from becoming homeless in the first place. We haev thirteen different projects across the city.
- Our Tenancy Sustainment service runs in partnership with Dublin City Council and aims to prevent people from beocming homeless by early intervention to help identify their needs and link people to appropriate services.
- Our three Emergency Accommodations provide accommodation and support for over sixty people every night. Counselling, group work and a needle exchange service are also provided in our 24/7 emergency accommodation.
- The Treatment Services are made up of Detox, Rehab and Aftercare and are run in partnership with the South Western Area Health Authority. The Detox unit provides an environment where men and women who are alcohol dependent can safely withdraw from alcohol. Up to 8 men and women access the 21-day programme at any one time. The Residential Alcohol Service accommodates 11 men and women over a 12-week programme. The Service supports residents to sustain their sobriety with structured therapeutic and practical interventions. Aftercare provides continued support and accommodation to residents upon leaving the programmes.
- The Rough Sleeper Team link in with those sleeping rough on Dublin streets. The team provides access to accommodation, health and social welfare services and encourages people to access these services. The team also link in with the Soup Run team which provides soup and sandwiches every night of the year to those rough sleeping and are a valuable first point of contact for those seeking homeless services.
- Three long-term projects provide permanent accommodation for 60 people who have been homeless and need support.
- Resettlement workers support people in the various projects to move into permanent accommodation. A Transitional House provides self-contained accommodation for 15 residents and helps people to gain confidence before moving into independent accommodation.
Our projects are run by approximately 120 staff and more than 250 volunteers. We work with approximately 2,000 people every year.
