Mid West Simon Community, a company limited by guarantee, and recently launched in May 2007 to deliver services to people experiencing homelessness in counties Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary. Mid West Simon Community is an affiliate member of the Simon Communities of Ireland, a voluntary sector body with a regional presence across Ireland.
Our recent national strategic plan outlines our commitment to ending homelessness and finding permanent housing solutions for everyone who uses our services. The vision of the Mid West Simon Community is to eliminate homelessness and ensure that every person can exercise their right to a home in the Mid West region of Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary.
Through our strategic planning process, we are looking to provide person centred quality services in line with best practice and we promote the use of the continuum of care model as a response to homelessness. This model supports the view that any service working with homeless people should have clear objectives which seek to support people to move out of homelessness.
'Ending Homelessness - Creating Homes'
Mid West Simon is currently developing a transitional service in North Tipperary and individual units of accommodation in Limerick City in conjunction with the Rental Accommodation Scheme.
In order to meet the needs of homeless people, we would be keen to ensure that people can move smoothly through our services. To this end we would provide a continuum of care by:
- Providing good standard accommodation
- Developing an integrated plan with the client
- Through liaison with the homeless person's centre staff, source appropriate move on accommodation with the client.
- Assisting the client to move into their new home.
- Supporting the client successfully to settle in their new home.
- Assisting the service user in reaching the goals in their settlement plan
The Mid West Simon Community aims to develop lasting solutions to homelessness. We will develop proactive strategies for preventing people from perpetuating cycles of homelessness by:
- Developing a settlement plan with the client that will support them to move out of homelessness.
- Support the client to source suitable accommodation.
- By liaising with relevant service providers to ensure needs identified in the settlement plan are being met.
- Providing pre-tenancy support and training.
- Providing the necessary supports to assist the client to successfully maintain their tenancy.
- Supporting the client to integrate fully into their community and enable them to build up a network of supports.
- Assisting the client to secure alternative accommodation in the event of any existing tenancy being brought to an end.
