We have part time (approx. 3-7 hours a week) and full time volunteers in Simon.
We recruit volunteers to live and work in our communities for a minimum period of six months. During this time the volunteer will work in a Simon project as a voluntary member of the staff team. The tasks are varied but on an average shift the volunteer will find themselves involved in the general household and administration duties associated with project work. However the most important aspect of this work is the development of positive working relationships with the people who use our services. The work will include advocating on behalf of people, supporting people in leisure activities and where necessary assisting people with physical needs.

We recruit people from all walks of life and from many parts of the world. Currently our volunteers tend to be young people who choose to do this work to gain experience in social work or to grow as individuals or to take time out from study or paid work and gain new skills.
While we don't ask that our volunteers have previous experience or particular qualifications we do look for personal qualities such as adaptability, empathy and a commitment to social justice.
While this is Full Time Voluntary position we will provide the following: training, supervision, support, accommodation and a weekly pocket money allowance to cover personal expenses. So while you don't receive a wage we provide your basic living requirements.
The accommodation we provide is in a separate location from the project where you carry out your voluntary work, and is shared with other Full Time volunteers. As the vast majority of our Full Time Volunteers come from places outside of Ireland this is also an opportunity to experience real interculturalism and get to know people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
We have an application process which starts by returning a complete application form. If successful we will contact you to arrange an interview, interviews take place either in person in our office in Exchequer Street Dublin or via web cam. All applicants will be asked to provide the contact details for two referees who know the applicant in a professional capacity.
You can apply online using our online application form or download a printable Application Form here, complete and post into us. If you would prefer to talk to our Volunteer Coordinator- about Full Time volunteering - you can do so on +353 16711606 or email volunteering@simoncommunity.com with any questions you may have.
Part time volunteers are recruited directly by the local Simon communities. Part time volunteers work in various roles, for example as soup runners, fundraisers, shop workers, committee members, visitors and friends to people who use our services. Part-time volunteers are particularly needed to assist the people who use Simon services to develop and enhance life skills, such as budgeting, shopping, basic cooking, basic computer skills and literacy. Part-time volunteers work from 3-7 hours, one day a week and give a commitment of one year.
