This conference aims to bring clients from the Simon Communities across the country together and get more people involved in client participation. Client involvement means the people using services having influence in how services are developed and run and having a voice in decisions which have an effect on them. Guest speakers from St Mungo’s Broadway[i]
in the UK will speak about their work and experiences in client involvement.
Michael, a member of the Simon Involvement and Action Group said that the group want to motivate clients from across the Simon Communities to establish and take up opportunities to become involved.
“We want to create awareness of the Simon Involvement and Action Group because it is vital to hear the voices of people with first hand experiences of homelessness. This group is important as our knowledge can help to influence services provided by organisations such as the Simon Communities.”
Chris, a member of the Simon Involvement and Action Group said that the group hope that this will be the first of many such conferences.
“My Voice, Your Voice, Our Voice will showcase a range of involvement opportunities that are happening across the Simon Communities in Ireland and in the UK and will inspire participation in the local Communities. This is a first opportunity for clients to come together nationally and share their experiences and knowledge on the subject as well as time to meet new people and get involved in a number of activities being offered in the breaks.”
The client conference is open to clients of the Simon Communities in Ireland. The Simon Communities deliver support and service to over 5000 people and families who experience - or are at risk of - homelessness on an annual basis.
