The Simon Communities in Ireland have warned that the homeless and housing crisis is spiralling even further out of control following the figures published today of emergency accommodation figures from June 2015. The June report shows that the number of individuals in emergency accommodation are at a high of 3258. The report also shows that in the first six months of this year the number of families increased by 55% from 401 to 620, while the number of children in emergency accommodation rose to 1318, representing a 52% increase.

The Simon Communities in Ireland welcome the first National Statement on Housing Demand and Supply launched today outlining that 21,000 homes need to be built annually to meet housing need.
However, the homeless and housing charity also stressed the urgent need for housing given the growing numbers of people becoming homeless and in housing difficulties across the country.

The Simon Communities in Ireland welcome the Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS) funding allocations announced today and are delighted that this will support the Simon Communities to deliver 28 homes around the country for people who are homeless. The Simon Communities warned that given the current homelessness and housing crisis the need for housing continues to grow across the country.

The Simon Communities in Ireland have said that they welcome new Urban Regeneration and Housing Bill legislation passed by the Oireachtas last Friday, July 17th; however, they remain deeply concerned about the rapidly rising numbers of people who are homeless and the social housing crisis.

The Simon Communities in Ireland have warned that the homeless and housing crisis is spiralling even further out of control following the figures published today of emergency accommodation figures from May 2015. The May report shows that in the first five months of this year the number of adults in emergency accommodation increased by 154 with families increasing by 41% from 401 to 565, while the number of children in emergency accommodation rose by 346, representing a 40% increase.
