92% of rental properties beyond Rent Supplement/HAP payments

One or no properties within RS/HAP limits were available in eight of the eleven study areas

The Simon Communities latest Locked Out of the Market XI snapshot study, published today, shows that only 8% of properties are available within Rent Supplement (RS) /Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) levels. The snapshot study was undertaken over three consecutive days in May 2018 (1st, 2nd, and 3rd). There were just 530 properties available to rent with no income limits across the eleven locations during this period. This is a decrease of 54% when compared to the first Locked Out of the Market study in May 2015 when there were 1,150 properties available.

Simon Communities respond to Government’s Vacant Housing Strategy

Housing and homelessness organisation welcome announcement but say greater detail is required.

The housing and homelessness organisation said that, in the short term, focusing on vacant housing offers obvious opportunities to provide permanent homes for those that need them urgently.

Rental System Remains Broken says Simon Communities

Homeless and housing organisation respond to the RTB Index calling for full rent certainty and enhanced security of tenure

The Simon Communities in Ireland have said that figures released this evening from the RTB Rent Index Q1 2018 show that the rental sector remains broken. This is causing homelessness and preventing people from leaving homelessness behind. The rental market is under huge pressure and is struggling to cope with demand. The homeless and housing organisation said that the introduction of full rent certainty and enhancing security of tenure would make a significant impact on the thousands of people struggling to find a home and to remain in the home they have.
