On the week of the third anniversary of Rebuilding Ireland’s launch, the Simon Communities in Ireland have called on Government to commit to a major roll-out of affordable cost rental[i] accommodation and increase allocation of social housing to those in long-term homelessness[ii] to tackle the homelessness and housing crisis.

The Simon Communities in Ireland have said that rental costs in the private sector are still far too high nationwide, as the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) Rent Index for Q1 2019 shows that average rents increased by 8.3% over the year.
Availability of affordable private rented accommodation for people depending on Rent Supplement (RS)/Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) is critically low in many parts of the country, according to a new snapshot study from the Simon Communities of Ireland.

June 28th: The Simon Communities in Ireland have said that the decrease in the number of people in emergency accommodation is to be welcomed, the first time in 2019 that the numbers in emergency accommodation have decreased month-on-month.
