2nd Janurary 2026
5,321 children faced into Christmas with no place to call home. The latest figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage show 16,996 men, women and children were living in emergency accommodation in November 2025. This is an increase of 230 people since October 2025.
The Simon Communities of Ireland (SCI) has expressed deep concern as the latest figures once again see a further rise in the number of men, women, and children experiencing homelessness.
Ber Grogan, Executive Director of the Simon Communities of Ireland, said:
“As we enter 2026, it is unacceptable that so many in Ireland are facing the year without a place to call home. These figures are a stark reminder that we must act urgently to provide support, affordable housing, and long-term solutions. The trauma of homelessness is profound and long-lasting, and affects education, health, and sense of security. Homelessness is preventable, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that no child, family, or individual is left without a place to call home.”
